Heston Blumenthal says there’s no better way to use up Christmas leftovers than with a leftover sandwich. We’d agree.
This isn’t really a Heston recipe, it’s barely even a post.
Heston has said in several Christmas interviews and articles that his favourite way to use up leftover dishes from Christmas in is a massive doorstop sandwich.
There’s no strict recipe for such a thing, but Heston says the most vital components are loads of mayonnaise and plenty of pickles.
So, with the leftovers of our Cheap and Easy Heston Blumenthal Christmas Dinner menu to dispose of, here’s our take on the Christmas leftover Sandwich that we hope Heston would approve of.
Start by assembling your ingredients.
Sourdough artisan blah blah blah. We’re using a tiger bloomer from the supermarket. There’s going to be so much filling in this you need to rip some of its guts out to make room.
Slather on LOADS of mayo and some mustard (we’re using Dijon).
Next, your remaining slabs of succulent turkey meat.
Next, some of your Christmas cheese. We’re using a mature hard cheddar. Ahem.
Pickles after that. They’ll add moisture and sharpness to Cut Through The Richness™.
Follow this with your stuffing…
Then pop the lid of the bread on (filled with loads more mustard and mayonnaise. Slice into huge slab-sized servings and enjoy.
Oh, and what about the leftover gravy? Well, there’s definitely a use for that with your sandwich, too…
